Sergio Margulis
Prof. Dr. Sergio Margulis is a mathematician with a PhD in Environmental Economics from Imperial College London. He was an environmental economist at the World Bank in Washington DC for 22 years, coordinated studies on the economics of climate change adaptation, and held important public positions such as Secretary of Sustainable Development at the Strategic Affairs Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, President of FEEMA (now INEA), and researcher at IPEA. He is a professor of sustainability economics in the professional master's program in Sustainability Science at PUC-Rio.
Food at Gold Prices and the Future of Food Security
Climate shocks, geopolitical conflicts, currency volatility and logistical concentration have been putting pressure on food prices on a global scale. At the same time, long supply chains dependent on few strategic inputs reveal structural weaknesses. This panel discusses why food is becoming increasingly expensive, and how technology, productive regionalization and new distribution models can make supply chains more resilient.
