José Renato Nalini is the Executive Secretary of Climate Change for the City of São Paulo. He was State Secretary of Education and President of the São Paulo Court of Justice. He is Secretary of the São Paulo Academy of Letters, member of the Brazilian Academy of Education, Rector of UniRegistral, professor and author of dozens of books.
PlanClima SP: Who Builds Climate Action in the City?
The panel will address the role of cities in tackling climate change, presenting the global context and its effects on the Municipality of São Paulo. Based on the experience of the Executive Secretariat for Climate Change, the main climate impacts on the city will be discussed, along with the evolution of the municipal climate agenda and the importance of public policies to promote urban adaptation, mitigation and resilience. Following this, the Climate Action Plan of the Municipality of São Paulo (PlanClima SP) will be presented as a strategic instrument for the city's transformation. The debate will highlight the joint action of public authorities, companies, startups, academia and civil society in implementing the Plan's goals, demonstrating how climate challenges can drive innovation, sustainable development and new opportunities for collaboration between different sectors.
