Drauzio Varella is a cancer specialist physician, graduated from USP. He was born in São Paulo in 1943. He was one of the founders of Curso Objetivo, where he taught chemistry for many years. In the early 1970s, he worked with Professor Vicente Amato Neto in the infectious diseases area at Hospital do Servidor Público de São Paulo. For 20 years, he directed the immunology service at Hospital do Câncer (SP) and, from 1990 to 1992, the cancer service at Hospital do Ipiranga, which at the time belonged to INAMPS. He taught at several universities in Brazil and institutions abroad. He was one of the pioneers in AIDS treatment, especially Kaposi's sarcoma, in Brazil.
